A car exhibition was organised on 28th December 1998 at Pragati Maidan, Delhi. While there were many cars that grabbed the attention of the visitors, one car stood out of all. The reason- it was the first fully made in India motor.
The car was manufactured in the then TELCO Factory at Pimpri Chinchwad near Pune. The car was named Indica, and the person who dreamt of having India's first indigenously made car and made it a reality was Ratan Tata…
Ratan Tata passed away on the night of October 9. A marvelous era comes to an end with the demise of Sir Ratan Tata, who efficiently managed the legacy of TATA and safeguarded the interests of the country. A question may arise as to why this period is termed as 'marvelous.' An example to justify this is an organisation called Goodfellow's that was established in the recent times, by Ratan Tata.
Shantanu Naidu, a young man, came up with the idea of establishing an organization for helpless senior citizens, and grandparents, so as to support them. This is how the organization came to life. The organization works to eliminate the loneliness of the elders by engaging them with technological information to help them in their daily activities.
Sir Ratan Tata is the pioneer of many such institutions. The responsibility of the TATA Group was handed over to from JRD Tata to Ratan Tata in March 1991. From March 1991 to December 2012 he successfully took the charge of the group. Behind every decision made by him, he first and foremost prioritised the convenience of Indians. During Ratan Tata's reign, Tata's tradition of not compromising over quality and quantity was carried forward, in fact Indian's trust on the brand grew even more stronger during his tenure.
Many of the TATA products are made while prioritising customer's interest. One such TATA product is the Nano car, which costs lakhs. Ratan Tata saw a family of four struggling on a scooter and this is when he came with the idea of Nano. In order to achieve this, Tatas had to shift their plant from Bengal to Gujarat.
Tata was hit by the political scandals in Bengal, but still managed to get through it and launched Nano on March 23, 2009. India's first indigenously made car Indica was also his dream. He took a huge financial risk of 1700 crores for his dream to come true. Although it was anticipated at the time that TELCO would fail, Ratan Tata made his final decision.
This demonstrates their entrepreneurial spirit. In recent years, strong businesses like Corus, a steel company, and Jaguar Land Rover have been absorbed into the Tata group as a result of this entrepreneurship. Seldom is the commercial success of the Tata Group discussed during Ratan Tata's lifetime. His deep affection for animals comes to light when one looks into other aspects of his personality.
His compassion for others
Ratan Tata had always had a deep affection for pets. Their dog is named Tito. They used to have fun with him. In the vicinity of Bombay House, the Tata Group's headquarters, the company also looks after the dogs. A video from the luxurious Taj Hotel went viral recently. A stray dog was found inside the hotel structure, soundly dozing off. Dogs are allowed direct access to the Taj Hotel grounds under Ratan Tata's directives. You are aware of all of this, but there is one more significant incident.
Tanzania is a country in Africa. A big lake named Natron in a nation rich in rare minerals. This lake's surroundings contain a 46,000 crore cubic foot soda deposit. In this region, the Tanzanian government made the decision to establish a soda ash industry.
However, there would be risk to the flamingos' home on the banks of that lake. A protest was initiated by Bird Life International. The Tata Group decided against building that factory after taking the Flamingos' home into consideration. This is a career-related occurrence for Ratan Tata. The Tata Group has prioritized taking social consciousness into account on numerous occasions.
