स्थानिक स्वराज्य संस्थांच्या निवडणुका म्हणजे लोकशाहीचा पाया, पण तब्बल नऊ वर्षांच्या प्रतीक्षेनंतर महाराष्ट्रात याच पायाला पैशाच्या आणि प्रशासकीय अनास्थेच्या वाळवीने पोखरल्याचे चित्र स्पष्ट झाले आहे. लोकशाहीचा हा उत्सव उत्साहात साजरा होण्याऐवजी, तो पैशांच्या खेळाचे, निवडणूक आयोगाच्या सावळा गोंधळाचे आणि न्यायालयीन गुंतागुंतीचे एक मोठे प्रदर्शन ठरत आहे.

भटक्या कुत्र्यांची दहशत, कबुतरांचा उपद्रव, रानटी हत्त्यांचा कळप, नरभक्षक बिबट्या यानंतर आता राज्यात माकडांनी जेरीला आणलं आहे. सध्या राज्यभरात माकडांनी मोठा धुमाकूळ घातला आहे. राज्यात माकडांची संख्या वाढली असून, माकडांमुळे शेतीचं मोठं नुकसान होत आहे. फळ बागाच्या बागा माकडं उद्ध्वस्त करत आहेत, प्रचंड प्रमाणात नासधूस होत आहे, या संदर्भातील अनेक तक्रारी प्राप्त झाल्यानंतर आता शेवटी वनविभागानं मोठा निर्णय घेतला आहे.

"मतदान आणि मतमोजणी तर होईल, पण निकाल टिकणार का?

अनेक वर्षांच्या प्रतीक्षेनंतर होत असलेल्या राज्यातील स्थानिक स्वराज्य संस्थांच्या निवडणुकांचा मार्ग मोकळा झाला असला तरी उत्साह आणि अपेक्षांच्या या वातावरणात एका मोठ्या कायदेशीर अनिश्चिततेचे सावट आहे. सर्वोच्च न्यायालयात प्रलंबित असलेल्या एका महत्त्वाच्या खटल्यामुळे या निवडणुकांचे भवितव्य टांगणीला लागले आहे. या लेखाचा मुख्य प्रश्न हाच आहे: "मतदान आणि मतमोजणी तर होईल, पण पुढे काय? सर्वोच्च न्यायालयाचा निकाल विरोधात गेल्यास या निवडणुकांचे भवितव्य काय असेल?"
